Day 3/59: Tuesday, March 3, 2020: Bora Bora, French Polynesia

This morning we will dock in Bora Bora. Maria and I have no excursions but Sarah will be snorkeling with the sharks.

Around lunch time, I took a tender to shore in search of some black earrings for Laura.

I went to the shop owned by the wife of our bus driver on Moorea. They treated me very nicely and spent over an hour trying to find just the right pair of earrings.

This is what I got. They are Grade A, 8 mm in diameter with yellow gold and a small cluster of diamonds. I think Laura will like them. If not, she can bring them back for exchange.

I walked from one end of the business district to the other, it took about 30 minutes. It was a hot muggy day. Then I jumped on a tender and returned to the ship where I spent the remainder of the afternoon reading and drinking piƱa coladas by the pool.

Day 2/58: Monday, March 2, 2020: Moorea, French Polynesia

Rain, rain, rain.

We arrived in Papeete toward the end of their rainy season (November to February) and there was a deluge over night. Early this morning we left Papeete and sailed the few miles to the neighboring island of Moorea. It rain most of the day there as well.

I took a tender to shore to start a half day tour of the island.

It was a simple tour around the only road around the perimeter of the island. It is a beautiful island but the clouds obscured much of the higher elevations.

They drove us up to the oldest temple known on the island. These people were into both human sacrifices as well as cannibalism (of their captured enemies). I collected a small stone from the wall of the temple.

We them proceeded up to the highest look out point on the island and sat for about 30 minutes hoping the rain clouds would dissipate enough that we could see the views. They did part.

We stopped along the road to get some shots of the surrounding mountains.

Our final stop was top see the hotel Sofitel with their $1000/night bungalows stretching out into the ocean.
