Day 11/67: Wednesday, March 11, 2020: Lautoka, Fiji

We arrived in Lautoka and, as usual, it was raining. I have a half day excursion to the first village on the island and to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant.

Lautoka is the second largest city of Fiji. It is on the west side of the island of Viti Levu. Lying in the heart of Fiji's sugar cane-growing region, it is known as the Sugar City. The name of the city is derived from the two Fijian words meaning "spear hit".

Boarding the bus for the tour, I was presented a seashell necklace.

Our first stop was a high point look out over the bay. Of course it was raining.

Lots of mango trees.

Our second stop was the first village of the island. The thatched roofed house is the home of the village Chief.

Our third stop was at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant (https://www.gardenofsleepinggiant.com/). This is a garden built by Raymond Burr (Perry Mason) to house his orchid collection.

Our last stop was down town Lautoka. Then back to the ship.

Maria had walked off the ship to find an internet cafe. Unfortunately, it was out of business. She sent me a message asking if I would like to meet her for lunch. I did and we had lunch at the 3 Hungry Bears Grill and Bar.
